WEEK 8 OF Physical Science

Last 3 weeks of the grading period!

This week will be all about WAVES.  Not the kind in the ocean, but transverse and longitudinal waves, sound waves and electromagnetic waves.  New stuff for you so it should be pretty interesting.

Monday - we'll go over last week's test and see what we need to review.  We will also go over some vocabulary review for the entire year, and do any make-up tests that were missed before Thanksgiving.

Tuesday - Friday will be waves.  What are they?  What do they look like?  How do they affect us in our daily lives?  Check out the Blendspace for videos and notes that you will need to use. 

The test will be announced later in the week.  Maybe Friday, maybe not until Monday.  We need to see how far we get and how much time we need. 

Don't forget you have a study island and 2 brainpops due next Friday, Dec. 13th




WEEK 7

This is a really short week for science. 

Monday - Test on Simple Machines for 1st, 3rd, and 7th periods.No social studies for you today. 

Tuesday - Test on Simple Machines for 2nd, 4th, and 8th periods. No social studies for you today.

REMEMBER TO TURN IN YOUR BLUE PAPER WITH YOUR COMPLETED BRAINPOPS.  I WILL CHECK THE STUDY ISLAND ASSIGNMENT ON SUNDAY, DEC. 1ST.

WEEK 5 for Physical Science

Hey Guys!!  We're half way through the 2nd nine weeks of school.  Interim grade reports will go home at the end of this week. 

MONDAY will be a computer day to work on Study Island and BrainPops There are several things due on either the 22nd or before Thanksgiving.  Check the calendar for due dates.

TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will be review days for our test on Thursday.  Review the Blendspace for Force and Motion at home. 

THURSDAY will be test day.

FRIDAY we start Simple Machines.  Watch the Blendspace so you know what's coming.

There will be a short test on Newton's Laws of Motion on Friday, Nov. 8th.  Learn them.  Know which one is which.  Know some simple examples of each.  Know the Law of Inertia.



WEEK 4 of Physical Science

WEEK 3

Monday and Tuesday will be Task Days.  You will be working with a small group andd completing tasks about force, motion,  and Newton's Laws.  These will include writing activities, computer activities, creating a poster, and a hands-on activity.  Your group will be responsible for turning in written responses to all tasks.


Wednesday and Thursday is our big Newton Lab.  You will have science on only one of those days and the other day will be spent in Social Studies.  This gives us a 90 minute class to let you participate in all the activities we have planned.  You will use your Newton Books to write all responses. 

Friday we will be finishing up Newton's Laws.

 



WEEK 3 of Physical Science

October 28th - Nov. 1

Monday and Tuesday will be all about gravity

Wednesday and Thursday we will begin our discussion of Newton's Laws, getting ready for a great lab next week. There will be a small project due for Newton; much of it will be done during class, but you may have to finish it at home.  Details will be coming soon.  

Friday will be Flashback Friday again where we continue to review our Earth Science standards.

YOU HAVE STUDY ISLAND AND BRAINPOP ASSSIGNMENTS DUE AT THE END OF THIS WEEK!

Week 2 of 2nd quarter
Due Date: 10/19/2013

Week 2 in Physical Science

A Study Island and Brainpop assignment will be given on Monday.  Check the calendar for due dates.  You can find the assignment under forms on my webpage.

Monday  we will continue to work on speed, velocity, and acceleration.  We will also have a "Thought Experiment" to discuss.

The rest of the week will be all about net force, balanced and unbalanced forces and how to calculate them.

There will be a quiz at some point this week on calculating speed, velocity, and net force; so, if you're struggling with this concept make sure you ask questions and/or come in early for extra help. 

Friday is going to be dedicated to Enrichment/Reteach for Earth Science.  We will do this every Friday this 9 weeks to keep that topic fresh in your minds. We wouldn't want you to forget about the Rock Cycle and how  the tectonic plates move.  

Don't forget:  the Blendspace is on my calendar, use it for review.

   Newton is coming soon to a classroom near you!




Week 1 of 2nd Quarter

WEEK 1 of the 2nd quarter

We're ready to start Physical Science!  Even though Earth science was last quarter, we will still revisit that topic all year in the form of review and vocabulary.

This week we will work through all of the vocabulary needed for the next several weeks in the form of a scavenger hunt.

Wednesday and Thursday will be motion, speed, velocity, and acceleration.  This is the "mathy" part of science so be prepared to work with some formulas.

Friday will be an open note quiz and a reading/writing assignment involving snowboards.

Week 9 - the last week of the first quarter.  We have a lot going on this week to finish up the 9 weeks before grades go out.

All 3 Study Island assignments are due by Friday.  I can't guarentee you any time during class on Friday to work on them, so do them at home or come in early. 

  • Monday - We will be reviewing for tomorrow's Benchmark test.  It will cover minerals, rocks and the rock cycle, plate tectonics and continental drift, and natural resources.  You have study guides and foldables to help you study at home.  Remember your extra credit opportunities are to study with a parent and to go through the review Blendspace.  Both need parent signatures.
  • Tuesday - Benchmark test

Week 8 Sept. 23-27

Welcome to week 8!

We will have a computer lab day on Monday, Sept. 23rd to work on Study Islalnd.  Many of you have not finished the first assignment from 3 weeks ago.  We have a Geologic Processes assignment on Sept. 27th,  and I will be adding a new assignment for Natural Resources for Monday.  These assignments are important to you.  They are a great addition to our regular classroom assignments, and remember, they count as a quiz grade.



WEEK 7

TEST ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER, 20TH

This is week 7 of Earth Science

  • Monday and Tuesday we will be working on Continental Drift and sea-floor spreading.  Remember you can refer back to the plate tectonics BlendSpace from last week. 
  • We will be adding a few new vocabulary words this week:  deformation, faulting, folding, and subsidence.
  • Wednesday you will be completing section quizzes.
  • Thursday will be a review for the test, including a study guide
  • Friday is TEST DAY on layers of the earth, plate tectonics, and continental drift.  Study for this test.  I think you are realizing that this is new material and requires some time outside of the classroom.  Go to my PRESENTATIONS link and you will find some powerpoints that will help you study for this test.  Or go to Mrs. Sword's webpage on the Pathfinders to find a video for review.

You have a new StudyIsland and BrainPop assignment due on Friday, September 27th.  Its called Geologic Processes.  You have a red paper giving you details on this assignment.  Remember to turn that red paper in to me when you have completed it.

Reminder:  If you didn't complete the first assignment on Rocks and Minerals you need to get that one done this week to get full credit.

Week 6 - Sept. 9-13

  • Monday and Tuesday we will be discussing the both the chemical and physical layers of the Earth.  Students will be completing a foldable and taking notes.  There will be some classroom demonstrations as well.
  • Wednesday and Thursday we will begin to discuss Plate Tectonics and how the 3 types of faults affect the formation of the Earth.
  • Friday we will move on to the Theory of Continental Drift

There will be a new BrainPop and Study Island assignment given this week.  Watch the website for updates on those due dates.  Some of you have not completed the Study Island/BrainPop assignments from the Rock Cycle.  If you have a zero on any of those assignments you still need to complete them to get credit.

WEEK 5    TEST ON WEDNESDAY ON ROCKS AND THE ROCK CYCLE

  • Tuesday is review day.  We'll look over study guides.  Ask any questions you have during class!  Then we'll play Jeopardy and have a "Snowball fight"!
  • Wednesday - TEST DAY - Also a writing assignment in the form of a R.A.F.T.
  • Thursday and Friday we will discover what the Layers of the Earth are all about.
  • Don't forget to check powerschool for any missing assignments.  Interim reports go out on Thursday or Friday.  BrainPop and StudyIsland assignments are due on Friday, Sept. 6th.
  • Change of plans!!  We are doing an item analysis and test re-take on Thursday and Friday.  Layers of the Earth will be coming on Monday!!

WEEK 4  Monday, Aug.26 - Wed., Sept. 4th    NEWSFLASH!!  TEST has been changed to next week.  We will have it on Wednesday, Sept. 4th.  That will give us time to complete some things and have plenty of time to review.  (And nobody wants to take a test the day after a holiday!)

  • Monday- we will be continuing our discussion of Rocks and the Rock Cycle by completing a foldable on the processes rocks go through as they continue to change during the rock cycle.  Continue to use the Edcanvas SCIENCE ROCKS! for information.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday - will be Science Center Day.  We have several activities planned to help reinforce the Rock Cycle concept.  Our plan is to combine Pathfinders, Navigators, and Visionaries in the science labs.  You can work with some of your friends on other teams!
  • Thursday will be a review day.  You will be get a study guide for help and also be able to work on StudyIsland and BrainPop assignments that are due on Friday, Sept. 6th.
  • Friday we will have some practice quizzes.  Make sure your notebook is up to date.
  • Tuesday - Review JEOPARDY.
  • WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 4TH is the new test day.   You are expected to take this test unless you are absent, in which case, you will make it up on the day you return.
